snickers cake

Posted on: March 28th, 2012 by Two Tiny Kitchens 7 Comments

So, let me just tell you right up front, there are no snickers in this cake.  BUT, there are are nuts, chocolate, and ooey, gooey caramel.  All the good stuff, so… close enough!?  The kids love this cake with the surprise inside.  No frosting necessary, so it would make a good birthday cake.  (I think that sometimes the ice cream and the frosting fight each other, am I alone?)   But whether it’s for a birthday, or just for satisfying your sweet tooth, I do recommend serving with a healthy dollop of ice cream or whipping cream.  Quick, easy, delicious!   (more…)

st. patty’s recipe review

OK, it’s time to go green! I think the Irish are onto something when they say, “A good laugh and a long sleep are the two best cures.” But personally, I’ve found that cupcakes and brownies can be a pretty good (if not better!) cure too. So, if you love treats like I do, and you’re looking for a St. Patrick’s day recipe, look no further! Here are our top picks for the holiday: (more…)

raspberry almond bars

These here bars are some of our absolute favorite treats of all time!  We know we love them, and we know they are delicious, but when we actually make them they manage to far exceed expectations, EVERY TIME!!  Raspberry and almond are truly a match made in heaven.  (more…)

chocolate chip cookie dough cupcakes

Posted on: February 19th, 2012 by Two Tiny Kitchens 5 Comments

These may not sound all that exciting, but I always fall for the dessert surprise in disguise.  I was shocked to discover that both the cupcake and the frosting taste EXACTLY (IMHO) like chocolate chip cookie dough. They are supposed to be stuffed with cookie dough balls, but if that’s too much for you, they are equally delicious without.  Really, they were much, much tastier than I had anticipated. Highly recommend to any chocolate chip cookie dough fans! (more…)

chocolate strawberry celebration cake

First, this picture was taken with an iPhone.  Usually I wouldn’t share it, but the cake was too amazing to keep quiet.  Ashley and I had so much fun making this together for Christmas Eve dinner.  Mom made a fabulous prime rib and the whole family feasted like we’ve never feasted before!  Our favorite part was most definitely Ashley’s chocolate buttercream – OUT OF THIS WORLD!  Absolutely amazing.

favorite carrot cake (cupcakes) – Easter style!!

Posted on: April 23rd, 2011 by Two Tiny Kitchens 4 Comments

Why does carrot cake scream Easter to me?  Is that normal? I mean, it’s not like carrots are seasonal, are they?  Actually, maybe they are, I’ve no idea.  I’m guessing it’s actually more the carrot/Easter bunny association.  Either way, it was a fun excuse to make my favorite carrot cake recipe and do some cute and easy decorating with the kids.

red velvet valentine cakes

Yum, yum, yum!  I love the idea of red velvet cupcakes, but they never turn out as tender and moist as I imagine they should be.  I’ve made a few recipes from scratch and I’m just never quite satisfied.  Until now.  Ashley suggested doctoring up a cake mix sorta like her pistachio cupcake recipe, and the results are super tasty!  Really, these were very rich, moist and just what I’d imagined a red velvet cupcake could and should be.  They were a fun, super easy valentine treat to make with the kids using a little trick I saw over at Cafe Ina(more…)

bon appetit’s chocolate (mayonnaise) cake

Posted on: October 29th, 2010 by Two Tiny Kitchens 4 Comments

My pumpkin supply is running short here in Asia, but that’s OK because I was forced to try something different this fall.  I’d completely forgotten how amazing the perfect chocolate cake can be!  I’ve never had a go-to recipe, but when I saw this in Bon Appetit it looked like I had met my match.  I don’t go for light and fluffy when it comes to my cakes, particularly the chocolate variety.  I like dense (check), rich (check) and moist (check).  The cake was fab. And the frosting?  Beyond.  Dangerous.  Anytime I need a chocolate cake, this will be on the menu.  Seriously, didn’t even miss my pumpkin in the middle of October, that’s how good it was!  (more…)

harvest squares

I know, I know, I just posted a pumpkin dessert.  As much as I enjoyed trying that new cake, this is one recipe I have to make every year.  It is reminiscent of pumpkin pie, and, although simple, this is hands down my favorite treat for fall!  Simply delicious.  (more…)
