snickers cake

Posted on: March 28th, 2012 by Two Tiny Kitchens 7 Comments

So, let me just tell you right up front, there are no snickers in this cake.  BUT, there are are nuts, chocolate, and ooey, gooey caramel.  All the good stuff, so… close enough!?  The kids love this cake with the surprise inside.  No frosting necessary, so it would make a good birthday cake.  (I think that sometimes the ice cream and the frosting fight each other, am I alone?)   But whether it’s for a birthday, or just for satisfying your sweet tooth, I do recommend serving with a healthy dollop of ice cream or whipping cream.  Quick, easy, delicious!   (more…)

st. patty’s recipe review

OK, it’s time to go green! I think the Irish are onto something when they say, “A good laugh and a long sleep are the two best cures.” But personally, I’ve found that cupcakes and brownies can be a pretty good (if not better!) cure too. So, if you love treats like I do, and you’re looking for a St. Patrick’s day recipe, look no further! Here are our top picks for the holiday: (more…)

These here bars are some of our absolute favorite treats of all time!  We know we love them, and we know they are delicious, but when we actually make them they manage to far exceed expectations, EVERY TIME!!  Raspberry and almond are truly a match made in heaven.  (more…)

everything cookies

First, sorry for the LONG delay since the last post.  Ashley and I have both been in transition.  She between jobs and apartments (although still in Brooklyn), and I across the ocean.  My family is finally starting  to settle back into life in the states (Northern Virginia to be exact), as plain ‘ol Americans.  Anyway, despite our best efforts, we’ve both still got what surely qualify as tiny kitchens.

OK, explanations and apologies over, now on to the treats!!!  I know, I know, these cookies aren’t quite as flashy as our usual posts, but TRUST ME, they are so worthy!  I absolutely love the consistency, unlike anything I’ve had before, it must be the combo of oil and butter, doesn’t that sound healthy?  But who cares?  Trust me, they’re worth every bite.  And besides, they’ve got oatmeal, cornflakes, and nuts… all good things!  I’m sure it all balances out in the end.  I found these over at Lovin’ From the Oven over a year ago, and despite the glaring absence of anything chocolate, something about her description made me want to give them a try.  So, so glad I did.  If you need a little change from your favorite chocolate chippers, definitely make and share these cookies.  Yumzo! favorite carrot cake (cupcakes) – Easter style!!

Posted on: April 23rd, 2011 by Two Tiny Kitchens 4 Comments

Why does carrot cake scream Easter to me?  Is that normal? I mean, it’s not like carrots are seasonal, are they?  Actually, maybe they are, I’ve no idea.  I’m guessing it’s actually more the carrot/Easter bunny association.  Either way, it was a fun excuse to make my favorite carrot cake recipe and do some cute and easy decorating with the kids.

rocky road brownies

I haven’t been a big brownie fan lately. Not sure exactly why, never quite the right recipe and probably too many of the boxed variety at potlucks, playgroups, and other such gatherings. I’d forgotten what a good brownie really can be. Luckily, my little Sam kept begging this month for marshmallow brownies, so I finally gave in. Man I’m glad I did! Made these for the first time and they were A-MAZING! I know that I describe almost all my food as rich and sweet, but these are near the top of the list. Still, with the walnut addition, the decadence is more than bearable, it’s absolutely divine. Oh, and they’re so pretty too, quite impressive looking if baked in a cute pan. They went too fast, already planning when to make and share these again this week!  (more…)

pistachio cupcakes

These cupcakes are delicious, incredibly moist (which is mostly likely attributed to the full cup of oil), and embarrassingly easy to make. It’s a little tough to get these cupcakes to look lovely due to the nature of the frosting, but seriously, every time I make these cupcakes, people’s reaction never fails to disappoint–the phrase “Best cupcake I’ve ever had!” has been used more than once.  (more…)

dark chocolate chunk (pecan) and dried cherry cookies

Posted on: August 9th, 2010 by Two Tiny Kitchens 2 Comments

Low(er)-fat, lower-sugar chocolate chip cookies?  They look yummy, right? I SWEAR they taste at least as good as they look.  But it’s honestly true, they have proportionally half the butter of any other chocolate cookie recipe I’ve ever tried.  At first I thought I read the recipe wrong, so I researched.  (more…)

rocky ledge bars

WOW!  How about “everything but the kitchen sink” bars!?  These were loaded with all the good things life has to offer; chocolate, butterscotch, marshmallows, white chocolate, caramel, and pecans (well, those were my unique addition).  Not to mention the butter and brown sugar foundation.  So, the age old question, can you have too much of a good thing?
